Question: Help! I have no idea in which class to enroll my child.
Answer: See below for some helpful pointers — or email us for assistance at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call 231-526-3168.
Question: We will be visiting town for just a week and want to get signed up, but we don’t see a week long camp. Can we still get our child involved for the week? How much does it cost?
Answer: Yes you can. Contact us to see what classes are offered or go to our registration and we can arrange to have your child attend. We don’t want to leave anyone out. The membership fee and class fee will be charged.
What does The First Tee offer for my child? We offer programs to children ages 5 to 17. We teach our 9 life skills (Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, and Judgment), 9 healthy habits and golf skills. We provide golf instruction from PGA Professionals as well as other trained instructors and volunteers.
My child is only 4. Sorry. Wait until they turn 5.
My kids did the camps in the past, but are interested in more. Consider enrolling them in “Summer Certifying Classes” — probably Par level, but you should check with staff.
My 13 year old son already has experience in golf, but wants to try The First Tee. Great! We would recommend a camp or the mixed ability class for that age range. Or, feel free to contact us and we will work with you for proper placement in our classes.
Will my child be playing golf in these programs and where? Yes, each program will include actual on course training and playing. Children involved in The First Tee can play on the Cuff Links Par 3 course located at Boyne Highlands for no charge any time. Other golf course opportunities are available for participants as well.
My child is 6, but a really good golfer. Yea! Enroll them in multiple Little Linkster classes and encourage them to come to the Cuff Links course with family to practice. Sorry — they will have to wait until the age of 7 to enroll in our Certifying Classes.
Is there a dress code for programs? We ask that participants wear shorts or pants and a collared shirt to class with athletic shoes. First Tee T-shirts are provided to each child and they may wear those to class. Children do not need golf shoes, but should wear athletic shoes. We do lots of walking. NO flip-flops are allowed.
Do we have to have our own set of golf clubs? No. We do make equipment available at all programs. However, if you are interested in borrowing or obtaining your own set, please contact our Program Director, Logan Paquet.
How do we get involved in Travel League? You must be in Birdie Level programming or have permission from Coach Logan to be able to participate.
